So, in a part of the Sculpture Garden I've somehow managed to miss until now (specifically, Jenny Holzer's Selections from The Living Series, number 24 in the list), there are a series of marble benches, each with a different aphorism.
One of them is:
After dark it is a relief to see
a girl walking toward or behind you.
Then you are much less likely to be assaulted.
There are at least two possible interpretations of this.
dru takes the discussion of "attitude" into gender.
Go.

You can also read all of Holzer's Truisms here

in horrible, horrible red text. Worth reading a couple screens of 'em though. The Denver Art Museum had one of her LED signs that continually scrolled the Truisms.Funny because those were also in blinding red text.

Closed my eyes, scrolled randomly up and down the page a few times, and got:
"rechanneling destructive impulses is a sign of maturity"
Not exactly the Delphic oracle, but interesting. Thanks for the link.

There was actually a coffee table book of Jenny Holzer's stuff that I lusted after for years despite it's $70+ price tag. There were a couple photos of some of the Truisms on gigantic screens suspended from casinos in Vegas. I think that's a much better context for them than an art museum exhibit. When her stuff can be easily confused for advertising it probably has the most impact.
Sorta like these guys.
