Damn. I do not remember Hong Kong Phooey being that ripped. I have no image at hand to compare it with but I don't think he grew two feet and a hundred pounds after a cycle through the file cabinet.

Oddly, there's as much if not more movement in that Flash animation as there normally was in a 70s Hanna-Barbera cartoon.

Someone found an article in a magazine about how "professional child psychologists" were having a deleterious effect on cartoons, and mentioned how The Real Ghostbusters had an unsolicited audit done on it, and ended up recommending a number of changes, ranging from the offensive (make Janine more of a "comforting, maternal figure") to the really--offensive (make the one black character a handyman-gopher type) to the flat-out-insane (remove Egon's glasses because such "sharp-angled objects can frighten children").

Yes, the events as described in the article you describe (it was in "Penthouse") are correct, and happened as written. (I should know, I wrote it.)

When I sent the article in to Penthouse (knowing full it would forever firebomb any chance of ever working in animation again), they
asked why on *earth* I sent an article on kid's TV to *PENTHOUSE* for chrissakes.

I was going to say that that Hong Kong Phooey short was the best cartoon I'd seen in awhile but I'm watching aqua teen hungerforce right now and I watched a rerun of the really good Justice League episode centered on The Trial of Green Lantern.

Because really its a buddy cop movie with Flash playing Mel Gibson.

And I loves me some Mel Gibson.

Remember being shocked that line made it past Standards & Practices, then laughing my fool head off.

Green Lantern is voiced by the same guy who does Static and Samurai Jack, so you'd think I'd remember his name. . .
