This is the very essence of the second renaissance.
Christopher Priest has changed his blog over to Movable Type. Dunno about black bloggers generally, but MT does seem to be the choice for black comics writers who blog. Priest. . . Dwayne McDuffie . . . Warren Ellis. . .
What?
Speaking of whom, this is just damn touching. No quote. Go see.
Meanwhile, Priest has spoken out on the cancellation of The Crew, and if you're asking, "What's that?" then you're part of the problem.
Don't worry, I'm asking the same thing. Haven't seen an issue yet.
Heck, last time I was in the shop (which was also the first time I've been in a shop in ages), the only books I picked up were Planetary (which is highly recommended), Global Frequency (which I shouldn't have tried jumping aboard with issue 10 of 12. . .) and the Vertigo X sampler.
I'm not Warren's bitch.
Honest.
Most of his work is published under Wildstorm, not Vertigo.
Update: added some links, changed some wording.

I do so love it when I get to be part of the problem.

I saw the 5th of issue of "The Crew" in the comic book store last week and it was the first time I'd seen it.
5 issues in.
I was annoyed.

Moveable Type wasn't so much my choice as it was the preferred system of the guy who hosts my blog. For what it's worth, I like it.

oooh - inline "more" links. Is that new?

It's all my fault, eh, Dwayne?
I like The Crew. I'll miss it. :(

Michelle, just for that, you're part of the precipitate.
(oh god, I'm doing my high school chem teacher's jokes. I hate my life and I want to die.)
Jason, guess I shouldn't say I'm Waiting For the Trade on this one, huh? Have you read any of it yet?
Dwayne, I'm going to link you as Tuvok and come up with a new nick for Cobb.
j., think that feature's been in MT for a while, but I didn't use it in my template. All credit to the Blog Body Shop. So yeah, it's new for me.
Kynn, hosting things means getting none of the credit and all of the blame, I've noticed.
Or that's being Celtic royalty. I get those confused. And have a head cold. And take you liking The Crew to mean it's definitely worth a look.

I didn't mean for that to come off as "blame," I actually don't know enough about blogging to make an informed choice. I told Kynn what features I thought I needed and he hooked me up. Also, Kynn is not responsible for the very bad coding on the rest of my site. I did that all by myself.

Mental note: do not attempt humor while suffering from head cold.
Sorry, Dwayne. No offense was intended, to you or Kynn.
Who has kindly offered several times to send me videos of shows that I whined about missing, and I've never taken him up on any of them, because I suck.
That does it, I'm changing the site name again.

I picked up issues 2 through 4 of The Crew yesterday.
It's all narrative exposition mostly establishing the characters who will make up The Crew with a secondary storyline that is bringing them all together.
What's most interesting, especially in light of the discussions about identity blogging in the past two weeks, is the importance of establishing the racial makeup of the characters in the story.
It's welcome and it gives greater context.
The White Panther is highly enjoyable. Biracial (black father, jewish mother), he's a married cop who does the superhero thing mostly to secure big collars for himself. His mother lives with he and his pregnant wife. His wife's family disowned her for marrying a "soul brother" and he was trained by the original Black Panther.
He's mostly an ass and those usually make for great superheroes.
Book 5 features the story of Josiah X, a black muslim minister, who is, in fact, connected to the stories established in Kyle Baker's The Truth mini-series.
That issue was sold out when I went back to the sto'. I'll have to go to the big sto' over the weekend to search out the first and fifth joints.

Jason, great, now I want to head to the sto' and search for back issues. And I know it'd be cheaper to wait a few months for 'em to end up in the quarter bin.
Which isn't a comment on the quality of the work, more grousing about the economic realities of the market. Or I still have a head cold, and need to shut the fuck up before I inadvertently insult again.
Did you read Priest's Black Panther? I bailed right before the "Death of the Black Panther" arc, because I suck.

I was kidding about the blame. :)
