Or rather, from Lynne D. Johnson on the Afrofuturism list, announcing PLAIN BROWN WRAPPER: Gender Issues in Sepia Space, the latest issue of Drylongso:
Drylongso sought out some of the pioneers of the internet and asked them about their experiences with race and gender on the internet. In a wide ranging email conversation, Art McGee, Kali Tal, Dr. Goddess, Mike Bowen and Drylongso’s Editor, Lisa Jeter engage in a meta discussion of their expectations of their participation on the internet and the realities such as cyberstalking, feminism and expressions of masculinity.
No idea why I haven't added 'em to the links list. . . wait, that's right, I'm an idiot. Never mind.
Lynne's contribution is Imagining a Gender Neutral Black Male/Female Relationship. My inability to quote people I kind'a know has kicked in, so I'm afraid you'll have to go have a look.
And I'm afraid this has got me thinking about these subjects again, so there's propably going to be some lengthy, pseudo-intellectual babbling with quotes from old entries popping up at some point today. I apologize in advance for the inconvenience.
Go read Drylongso instead.
Update: Just a test here.
Send me an IM via ICQ. I'm not convinced that that sort of thing works. Code from Matthew Feinberg's HTML Tips, which also has similar links for AIM and Windows Messenger.
Would add this to the previous entry, but I'm worried the autotrackback discovery will start pinging everyone in creation again. I'm not sure if that's a feature or a bug. . .
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Update:
Another test. I'm in one of those moods.

I'm already on AIM, Yahoo! and MSN. Do I really have to do the ICQ, too?
Well, AIM won't work through the Evil Employer's firewall (is there an AIM/ICQ bridge available?), the idea of using MSN makes my skin crawl, and Yahoo!. . . I haven't bothered to test, because I'm an idiot.
Give me a sec.
Well, lookee there, the web version of ICQ lets you send messages to AIM users. And it says so in big, bold print right on the web page.
I am dumb.
wow. and i didn't even really think you knew who i was, or that i existed. that drylongso issue is packed full of stuff...i haven't even gotten fully through it yet, but am interested in hearing your thoughts of course.
Lynne, um, I admit I don't know you that well, but I have been by your site from time to time. . .
Seeing as I haven't gotten 'round to telling Hanne my thoughts on the copy of Shameless she gave me a little over a year ago, there may be a slight delay in my writing anything about that issue.
It's not procrastination. It's suckiness. There's a difference.
Once you've auto-pinged someone with a link to them in MT, if you update and re-save, it WILL NOT re-ping the pings you auto-sent when you originally posted, but will ping any you've added. If you click the 'previous pings sent' link when you're editing an entry, it will give you a list of the ones that went through; those are the ones it won't re-ping...also, if any of the pings timed out, it will list them in the URLs to ping box and try again if you edit and save...MT's so cool, it makes me all fluttery.
