And I'm Ted "Theodore" Logan
It bothers me that the preview for The Last Samurai that I saw before Matrix Revolutions made the thing look tempting.
Luckily, Secret Asian Man is here to disabuse me of these fool notions.
I'll just avoid seeing what angry asian man has to say about it.
I mean, I can probably guess.

i have a severe tom cruise allergy. have ever since i had to watch his stoop-shouldered honky ass parade around in his tidy whities in "risky business", which made me hurl so bad my stomach is starting to lurch just reminiscing about it. yet, like a chocoholic who is allergic to chocolate i keep showing up at his damned dumb-ass movies, walking away from them feeling soiled. the only antidote is ben stiller's brilliant parody of him on SNL.

LOL, angry asian man went off! Check out the email he sent to that casting director who was looking for beautiful asian women to be unpaid extras at the premiere party!

I refuse to see The Last Samuri because the whole "white-guy-because-the-best-at-what-the-natives-of-(insert any country here)-have-been-doing-for-generations-saves-the-day-and-takes-your-woman" is more than a little trite with me. You know?
I'm gonna go check out angry asian man now...

sorry you guys feel so strongly against the last samuri. I saw the sneak preview last weekend. It was a kick ass movie esp for some real men like yourselves.
I really liked the part where tom cruises men are facing the enemy and the samuri's ride in and everyone about craps their pants.
Very good movie, very well done in all. The japanese earn some major respect in this one.
I saw one well worth seeing.

I should point out -- too late, it appears -- that the next mother fucker uses the word "sorry" to mean "I don't give a shit that" instead of expressing anything vaguely resembling apology or regret is going to get. . . a very stern talking-to.
Unless they tell me never to talk to them again, as seems to be happening with increasing frequency these days. Good thing I really don't give a rat's ass at this point.
Anyway, hope969, you chose the wrong time to drop by with that shit. I truly doubt the japanese were looking to earn major respect from the likes of you, if that's what you were trying to express in that penultimate sentence. I'd ask what the fuck you were trying to say, but again, that whole not giving a rat's ass thing.

It's just a movie! Entertainment.
Something else to do besides bitch and moan on a internet site!
It's not asian/white/black kicks ass. It's a lesson in understanding, honor and duty and not repeating or forgetting the past, so *Americans* can see how far we've come and how far we still need to go!
Don't like it, go to the library.
That's what I'm expressing in my penultimate sentence!

hiphopmusic.com EXCLUSIVE: The Scoop on Tom Cruise's Next Film

(Note to Aaron: I don't know why I'm bothering with this, since I strongly suspect that it will roll off those I'm arguing with like water off a duck's back, but ...)
Well, Paul, I'm not at all interested in seeing "The Last Samurai" (note spelling, hope696), and I'm reading "The Virgin Suicides" instead. So.
It may be "just a movie", but there are a lot of "just a movie"s, made in bad faith with sentimental values and little care towards any kind of historical truth, and enough of them, having accrued, contribute to the overall state of racial, social, and sexual division and conflict in this poor little world by reinforcing (however subtly) the values that create those conflicts.
That, I think, is why some of us are upset, disturbed, or just plain annoyed at this kind of shit.
And if you take away pleasant messages about honour and duty and all that cal, fabulous -- I'm glad you were able to get something good out of it.
If you enjoyed it so much, you might want to read up a little on Japanese society under the samurai, and about the the Westernization of Japan. Interesting stuff. And it might make you look at the movie differently.
*jumps off soapbox*
(god, can't believe I went on for that long. Sorry, Aaron.)

Karin, no worries. Gets it off your chest, plus, if that article on neophobes also applies to humans (and I seem to recall a piece or two on racists dealing with people of other races that strongly implies that it does), by confronting them you're shortening their lifespans to boot.
It's win-win.
ObVESH: Huh huh. I said "chest."
