Quick geek question
Is there a way to chmod a file on a Linux webserver using the command-line ftp client what ships with Windows 2000?
No reason.
Just curious.
And, y'know, making conversation.
And playing with my new Technorati Profile.
Update: A second geek question, this one about linguistics: Anybody got a decent link to a paper/thesis on the glottal stop in the sound system/phonology of AAVE/Black English/Ebonics/How Them Negroes Talk? Always wonder about that when I listen to Destiny's Child's Independent Women.
Geek. Linguistics. It's not like I didn't warn you.
Update: Ok, this one isn't from me, it's from Body and Soul: Calling all MSTies:
Anyway, while I'm on the subject, anyone have suggestions for MST episodes that a kid who loves them should not miss? (Avoiding the obvious. He already has Manos,Mitchell, and Eegah.)
Haven't seen an ep in years -- I never warmed to Mike as the host, for some reason -- so I ain't the one to help a sista out with this one. Anyone else?
Entry reached the long way via ALLABOUTGEORGE.com.
Remember, he's the good one.

I don't think there is; that's one thing I've found: the ftp that comes with Windows is really lacking.

You might just grab a copy of PuTTY and work with that instead of the miserable Win telnet client. You'd probably have to mess with the system a bit to actually get SSH going but if you just need to chmod a file there are ample tools included. It is intended for simple SSH/telnet sessions but it would probably do the job with little fuss and give you encrypted shell access if you wanna set it up. It also gives you sftp as well.

Ryan, no need to mince words here. It sucks. Like a Hoover.
goneaway, not sure I'd be able to install that; this is when I'm suffering the Windows 2000 box at work, which I have precisely zero privileges on.
I'm surprised it lets me move the mouse, to be honest.

Oh, well lookee there, PuTTY is just an executable, and doesn't have to be installed. I am dumb.
Seems to be doing the trick. Thanks.
