I'd thought, wrongly, as usual, that they offered capoeira classes. Don't worry, I'm not sure how that's pronounced either.
Might try Gingarte Capoeira -- they're just down the street, basically -- but this would involve getting my shit together. And having a source of income to pay for the classes, come to think of it. . .
Huh. There's also International Capoeira Angola Foundation - Chicago. The also offer Afro-Carribean dance and Middle Eastern Belly Dance.
I. . . shouldn't sign up for the Belly Dance class, should I?
Comments
During my short-lived bellydance career, I saw three male bellydancers, and frankly, that was three too many.
Not saying it's a bad idea for all men, that is, but it was certainly not a good idea for them. Or for me to see them, since when I'm old and senile and can only remember about six things, I'm seriously worried that one of them will be the hairy guy in a half-shirt, harem pants, and a velvet hipscarf, gyrating in front of a badly painted desert backdrop.

Karin, you had a short-lived bellydance career?
You just keep getting cooler.
I am fairly hairless, if that helps. Don't think I've regrown the bits that peeled off during the Liquid Latex photoshoot, actually.

2? years of classes, and some performances. Yeah. No, no pictures, at least not ready to hand. The sparkly costumes remain packed in a box in the office closet, on the off chance that I decide to go back to it.
On the subject of male bellydancers, relatively hairless is definitely a good thing. And so is being in shape, but that goes without saying, for men and for women. I will add that no man should ever wear a half-shirt, though, no matter how goodlooking. (See Bruce Jenner in "Can't Stop the Music" for further evidence.)

Here, by the way, is a picture that includes one of the three male bellydancers mentioned before. It really doesn't do him, ah, justice.

Karin, damn the luck, but that link doesn't appear to work, and says you'll have to go with a thumbnail or medium version instead.
Which I could have mentioned a while ago, but after the build-up you gave it, I wasn't all that disappointed. . .
The Dark Crystal DVD arrived. You are officially my favorite person in the whole entire world right now.

Ah, glad the DVD made it. Enjoy!
I'll see if I can find that photo again...
