Because, you know, not everyone has that odd photographic/sievelike memory combo thing I seem to be stuck with these days:
GILES: Can you move?BEN: Need... a minute. She could have killed me.
GILES: No she couldn't. Never. And sooner or later, Glory will re-emerge and make Buffy pay for that mercy, and the world with her. Buffy even knows that, and still she couldn't take a human life. She's a hero, you see. She's not like us.
BEN: Us?
(Giles suffocates Ben)
From Buffy Dialogue Database: The Gift, if that wasn't clear before.
Oh, and although this should be obvious?
I'm not a hero either.

one of my all-time favorite buffy moments, one of many that elevated it from a mere television show into something truly greater.
also an indication of what a huge compliment it is that you refer to george as 'giles' over there to the right.....
Remind my forgetful ass to write up my observations on Buffy as Medieval Romance over at lj. Giles fits into the scheme a bit like the modern reader who gets tired, every now and again, of all the fucking nobility . . .
Garrity, I so want to read that. It might motivate my sorry butt to watch Buffy at long last ...
Be my guest. I went ahead and wrote it up:
