Or something.
First off, thanks to Rachel for notifying me this:
June 16 CROSS THIS!: dykemarch/rally benefit.across genres... Dyke March: when a parade becomes an art fest Chicago Dyke March / Rally 2004 presents---
"CROSS THIS: how LGBTQ people create/cross boundaries", an evening about jumping cultural and gender boundaries. The featured performer is Dr. Laila Farah, a Lebanese-American feminist performer-scholar, who navigates ideas of nation, gender, and sexuality with innovative performance. The political thrust of her performance comes from a critical and dynamic questioning of US imperialism, Americana, and apathy.
Also on this evening is a screening of "Little Boy Panties." The film explores gender labels in our current society, and poses the question, "Is your gender as easy to change as your underwear?" Hmm...! Be one of the first to see this innovative documentary that promises not to leave any tan-lines.
This event benefits the Chicago Dykemarch/Rally 2004. It convenes Wednesday, 16 June, at Chase Café, 7301 N Sheridan Road (Rogers Park) Chicago. The event begins at 6:30 PM. Donations are on a sliding scale, from $5 to $10.
Think I can manage the lower end of that sliding scale. And yes, this is crossposted to Chicago Lesbians Invading Taverns, because like all my threats, the one about how I wasn't going to be running the thing was completely ineffectual.

I just got the joke. Started Dhalgren today.
Wow. Ok, could you get back to us with a review in six months or so?
Sorry, couldn't resist the obvious, as usual. It's a good read, but, like you mentioned at your place, challenging. Or maybe demanding. Have you read much of Delany's other work?
I've read Babel-17 and Empire Star, and I've read Triton three times. Not because I loved it so much to start with (though I got pretty attached to it in the end), but because I wrote a paper about it. I thought about pussy-footing around and reading some other stuff first, but it seemed silly to think of myself as a Delany fan having never read his masterpiece.
Susan, I'd actually like to see that paper. . .
And have never read Empire Star. Loved Babel-17, though, and really meant to quote some bit about terrorist attacks because it seemed so apropos given current events, but never got 'round to typing it in. Because I suck.
I'm still supposed to be editing/proofreading/footnoting it, despite already having gotten a grade, so as you might imagine I have been procrastinating. (One thing's still in it for me: staying in the good graces of the head of Women's and Gender Studies.) If I ever actually get it looking presentable, I'll totally email you a copy. Though the fact that I'll have to show it to 5-6 people once it IS presentable is one of the reasons I'm procrastinating.
Here's the gist of what I was at least trying to do: Triton, the Xenogenesis Trilogy, and Sturgeon's Venus Plus X, along with 3 television episodes (X-Files, Star Trek TNG and Enterprise), evaluated in a sort of trans liberation way that involves Herbert Marcuse. Which is why the smoke/brain ooze is still coming out of my ears over a month later.
