Emanci-mother-fuckin-pator of the slaves

I'm showing my age again, aren't I?

Happy Juneteenth. Maybe next year, we'll get a Google Holiday Logo, which seems to be the 21st c. stamp of approval.

Didn't notice anything marking the occasion on Drylongso, but it's early yet. And the article on the origin of the word miscegenation (actually a link to the Museum of Hoaxes) is worth a read:

The letter revealed that the Miscegenation pamphlet had not been written by a Republican abolitionist. Instead it had been written by a couple of Democratic newspapermen who had penned the pamphlet, and then circulated it far and wide as a way to insert the inflammatory issue of miscegenation into the presidential election. The correspondent declared that the authors of the pamphlet would never be discovered, but looked forward to the moment when the expose reached the States because, he predicted, the Republicans would look like fools for not having recognized the pamphlet's satirical intent.

(See also: Sokol Hoax -- either the similarity is amusing, or I need more sleep)

Clearly, the Miscegenation pamphlet thang took place way back in the day when Republicans were the good guys. Hard to imagine today, I know.
