Balding! Can't sing! Can't act! Dances a little.

Americans like to think they live in The Greatest Country in the World. Which is all well and good, lots of people think that, but when confronted by someone from, say, Finland or Canada expressing that belief, Americans tend to, um, wig out. Badly. And start enumerating all the flaws of the other person's country, which usually revolve around so-cial-ism.

Dudes. Relax. This is like saying your SO is the most wonderful person in the world. It's not meant to be an objective fact, and you really shouldn't be so insecure that you need validation from everyone else.

Another interesting thing about the yezidi is that the largest group of them live in Iraq. Which is a horrible place run by a man who gassedhisownpeople, and the majority of the population are evilnastybadintolerant Muslims. The yezidi are discriminated against, but they haven't been wiped out, although the majority Muslim group easily have the military might to do so. Since the Israelis are meant to get credit for not wiping the Paleostinian scourge off the face of the planet, it only seems fair to mention this.

(This child is quite proud of inventing the term "Paleostinians". Fine. I'm rather fond of my neologism, "white bitch need to shut the fuck up before somebody put their foot up her ass". Although you may find earlier attestations if you look hard enough. Meh.)

Yezidism is agreed to be a syncretic religion, although there's disagreement about where the different bits came from. There are, and for quite some time have been, lots of different cultures in that area of the world. You should ignore that, though, since one of the things that makes the U.S. so Greatest is the multicultural aspect of our society.

Wait, no, multiculturalism is Bad. It leads college students to moral relativism, the first step towards creeping socialism. The neutral, approved term is diverse. The U.S. has a diverse society.

As long as you newcomers learn English, you can practise whichever monotheistic religion you want. As long as it's not some syncretic mix of African and Western beliefs; we call that voodoo and mock it relentlessly. But we're the most religiously tolerant society on Earth, another aspect of our Greatestnessness.

Crap mood this morning. The first day of summer was overcast, with rain, for most of it, and the second seems to be shaping up the same way. And MPR is doing a pledge drive.

Pledge drives send me into the waiting arms of Melek Taus.
