Whatever happened to Ola Ray?
Is that too close to an RHPS reference for me to maintain deniability that I've ever seen the thing?
George Kelly (a/k/a Giles, a/k/a Good Ash) links to an article at PopMatters about the Michael Jackson/Sony trainwreck. I raised an eyebrow at the adjective "notorious" stuck in front of Johnny Cochran's name, but I'm meant to do that sort of thing. Sane humans will let it pass without batting an eyelid.
The article is by Marty Thau of Tres Producers (whose link-list includes some rather dubious characters, but as Gerald Ford said, nobody's human).
Bessie Smith might be an instructive example in this whole "record companies rip off black artists" discussion. Do your own bloody research; her story, at least, has a definite conclusion. She died in 1937, after all.

The first one didn't admit blacks.
Wait, sorry, checked and that's apparently just an urban legend. She was taken directly to the black hospital, and died on the way.
Speculating that she might have lived if she'd been taken to the closer white hospital is pointless.
Title taken from Ola Ray's enthusiastic babbling during the Making of Thriller video. Some people might think the woman was on drugs. Nah. I've known actresses, and I've known models. That's about as good as it gets for conversation, really.
Wonder if Mia Camelli is still in Korea?
Update 7/15: Sorry, at a place I used to work, Mia Camellia was the office secretary/administrative assistant/underage hottie. Always figured she was like the Mona Lisa; you were pretty much expected to stare openly and whisper in reverent tones to the person next to you, but if you got too close, or looked like you were thinking about touching, large, uniformed men would appear out of nowhere and drag you off, and you would never be seen or heard from again. . .
