Limiting the hate
Ok, not hating everyone. Just hating James Lileks.
He's on vacation (all I ever wanted), so I made the mistake of checking out the rest of his site. Here's what he has to say about my neighborhood:
It's less a place to stay than a place to pass by, a green oasis glimpsed from your car, a dark circle of water you drive past at night on the way to the Guthrie or a restaurant. I'm not sure it's entirely safe at night anymore.
Perhaps it's because I grew up in an actual city, but I have never, ever, ever, ever thought this place wasn't entirely safe at night. Except for the Vietnamese girl gangs, but I just leave them the fuck alone.
He also mentions that the place went from rich, to poor, to the gay, to gentrification. He left out the lesbians.
Usually, neighborhoods go poor, then the two-woman-income lesbian couples (also poor) move in, then the two-male-income gays (who are loaded) follow, and they price everyone else out and cause gentrification. Fuckers.
Don't hate them, though.
