The headlines don't lie: Rain fizzles Torchlight parade in Minneapolis.
The Torchlight Parade was canceled Wednesday night for the first time in the Aquatennial's 63-year history because of lightning.
The parade was called off by organizers shortly before it was scheduled to start at 8:30 p.m.
"We're incredibly disappointed," said Lisa Dinndorf, Aquatennial director. "Everybody was waiting, and people love this parade."
A crew of more than 300 volunteers had worked for a year to organize the parade. And despite the rain, thousands of onlookers had lined Hennepin Avenue on Wednesday night in anticipation of it.
Gotta say, I'm disappointed too. Figure skinny chicks in tiaras on top of floats would have made great tar--
I mean, this is a sad, tragic turn of events.
The Aquatennial fireworks are still go for Saturday, though.
If you're wondering what the fuck an Aquatennial is, if you gots Flash, try the official site. And drop 'em a line that non-flash links to content are generally considered a Good Idea. Or were, in my day. Punk kids and your plug-ins.
Us low-tech types can still see a schedule and junk, if you reach the pages indirectly through Google.
You'd think with the economy the way it is, the really good web designers would be the only ones getting work, and the idjits who got into it because of late-night tv ads would be back to retail hell. And you'd be wrong.
