Plus, a Brief History of Alvin Ailey Dance Theater

If you're not reading the Lucas and Odessa strip at Girlamatic.com. . . you should be.

And Spike (the strip's creator) suggests you find out about Mary Prankster, which I intend to do.

And while you're at Girlamatic, you should also check out Kris Dresen's Encounter Her, while you still have a chance.

Of course, you'll still be able to access the archives as a subscriber. And you were going to subscribe, right?

Update: And, as echeneida says in the comments, Spike's blog Iron Circus is also worth a moment of your time.

And I want to know who her locktician is. Her dreads look damn good, and I've been needing maintenance on mine for a while. . .

Another update: Fixed the link to Spike's blog. Duh.

Spike's blog (ironcircus.com) is also consistently hilarious.

Thanks, guys. I really appreciate it.

And I do my own hair, Aaron. A crochet hook is all you need. I haven't been to a salon in five years. The stylists give me dirty looks when I walk by. Mwah ha.

So the question is Aaron, are you talented enough to be your own locktician?

Posted by: Michelle at October 5, 2003 11:29 AM

Michelle, not no how, not no way.

Spike, think you could teach me?

I'll call you Qui-Gonn and everything.

Heh Heh. Not much to it, really. Dreadlocks are easy for me, my hair is super-kinky. I took to it well. I just twisted my hair and let it stay that way, and used the crochet hook to weave stray hairs back into the dreads. Five years later...

Lucky devil. Somehow, every non-black ancestor in my family tree decided to make a last stand on my head, so I have effed-up rainbow baby hair. The dreads in front tended to unravel pretty quickly when my second locktician just twisted 'em with a comb. I'll give the crochet hook a try. Thanks.

Hey everyone!
I've now had dreads for two weeks and even though I've got a crochet hook I've got no idea how to fix up all the loose hairs. I've got no products in my hair whatsoever so I don't wanna start putting wax in it now. Anyone know how to fix the roots and the loosies please?

(checks mirror)

Nope, I'm definitely the wrong person to ask. . . sorry. Spike? You still around?
