I have a Puerto Rican friend but she's (as she would say) "really Puerto Rican, not one of those Puerto Ricans" who absolutley gets livid over people of Puerto Rican heritage who live on the mainland barely speak Spanish (if at all) and have never been to the island yet they justify, um questionable behavior in the name of Puerto Rican pride. She also hates celebrities who are "those kind of Puerto Ricans" that play off their Puerto Rican heritage pretty much only when it suits their career.
I mention this because my friend went crazy when HBO aired a documentary on the Latin Kings and they all talked about their "Puerto Rican pride" during the whole thing.
