My First Attempt at a Posting, But Here We Go

Hi, it's Jessie (with help from Val).

Rumors are swirling out there about our favorite Illinois Republican Senate Candidate Alan Keyes -- or should I say, his family. See this post at the new blog, selfishhedonist:
Monday, September 27, 2004
Is helping your dad get elected against your interests selfISH or selfLESS...??? Maya Keyes, dear daughter of Your Future Senator From Illinois, was in the state recently, in an attempt to help dad win his upcoming election. You will remember that Alan Keyes is the gentleman who will go down in history as having inspired this blog you are reading right now -- he coined the phrase "selfish hedonist" to describe gays and lesbians in general and Mary Cheney in particular. He got a lot of crap for that from lots of folks.

Well.

It would seem that the blogger Modern Vertebrate found the 19-year-old-and-therefore-plainly-an-adult's blog, which -- hey, if that's not the work of a lesbian, then I don't know lesbians...

I don't know if this is true or not. It's my opinion that Keyes isn't running for a Senate seat, but is really auditioning for a new TV show!

From Val:
Hey! His old MSNBC TV show was true train wreck TV. I was shocked -- shocked! -- when it was canceled... just because in defiance of the show's title -- Alan Keyes is Making Sense -- he never made any sense!

Back to Jessie:
While we're keeping an eye on our own upcoming elections -- don't forget the first Presidential Debate tomorrow night -- the Associated Press filed this story over the weekend, Abizaid Predicts Flawed Iraqi Elections.
Abizaid, commander of U.S. troops in the Middle East, said the elections will be carried out. But he warned that voting may not be possible in parts of Iraq where the violence is too intense.

"I don't think we'll ever achieve perfection and when we look for perfection in a combat zone we're going to be sadly disappointed," he said on NBC's "Meet the Press."

Abizaid compared the situation in Iraq to the disputed U.S. presidential election in 2000 that put George W. Bush in the White House following a protracted fight that ended up in the Supreme Court.

"I don't think Iraq will have a perfect election. And if I recall, looking back at our own election four years ago, it wasn't perfect either," he said.

...Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld said that if insurgents prevent Iraqis from voting in some areas, a partial vote would be better than none at all.

Asked about Rumsfeld's comments, [Secretary of State Colin] Powell repeated the State Department's assertion that all Iraqis must have the chance to vote if the election is to be credible.
As long as we're all on the same page here, people--!

We should send Rumsfeld and the Supreme Court to Iraq to run the elections so it will be just like the American elections.

Today's Tavis Smiley NPR show gave some priceless tips on watching the 2004 Presidential Debates, by the way, including commentary from Connie (not Condi!) Rice, Top 10 Secrets They Don't Want You to Know About the Debates.
