I've Watched Presidential Debates. That Was No Presidential Debate!

From Jessie --

As I watched the September 30 debate, I had a feeling of déjà vu. Do any of you remember the TV show Max Headroom? Both candidates are playing to the American public, saying whatever the latest up-to-the-minute polls tell them they should say.

Are we so stupid that we actually believe that was a debate? Do we have such a short attention span that we will only listen for 2 minutes to a candidate? If the next debate is like the first, leave me out.

For those of you who think we should leave Bush in office, I offer the analogy of the used car. You fix the water pump, the fuel pump goes. You fix the brakes, the transmission goes. At some point, you stop throwing good money after bad and buy a new car.

Quote from Barbrastreisand.com/September 28, 2004:
Where is our Free Press?

If you cross this administration you get your head handed to you. If you open your mouth and tell the truth like former White House Economic Advisor Lawrence Lindsay did when he told the Administration that the Iraqi war was going to cost between $100-$200 billion dollars, you get fired. If you disagree with the President, like Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill did one too many times regarding the President's policy on tax cuts, you get canned. If you claim that the Administration is misrepresenting the facts and misleading the public, like Former Ambassador Joseph Wilson did, your wife's career gets ruined when she gets outed as a CIA operative in the national media... [W]e now live in a time where the fear of revenge by this administration sends a chill through the corporations that control our media and overwhelms the press' responsibility to investigate, educate and hold our leaders accountable.
I never knew Barbra had it in her. You go girl!

Don't you just love Mayor Daley and the new "Panhandler's Law?" Don't try to solve the problems of the panhandlers -- homelessness/lack of affordable housing in Chicago, unemployment, etc. Why not just put them on a bus and ship them to Milwaukee--!?

BOP's own Barry Ritholtz explains Bush's poor debate performance due to a lack of sparring practice. I agree that, in part, his insulation from the press and his Nuremburg-rally-esque stage-managed stump speeches have helped the aggressive cultivation... [Read More]
